WebRespond: Registration Instructions
This version of WebRespond is provided as shareware software. The author
gives any individual or company the right to examine and to freely distribute
this applet as long as this disclaimer and the rest of the WebRespond documentation
is included. For more details on what can and can not be done with WebRespond
see the License and Disclaimer file.
If after a one month evaluation time the user decides to continue using
WebRespond, a registration number can be obtained for $20 from RegSoft.
A user should obtain a separate registration number for each server
from which WebRespond will be called. The registration process results
in a file named 'wrlook.ser' which must be present with any web page that
calls WebRespond. If this is not present, any customized appearance
placed in the file 'wrlook.txt' will not be used. All other functionality
should be operational without registration. It is suggested that
you make sure WebRespond works on your system before registering.
The following steps must be followed to generate a registered version of
WebRespond.
-
You will need an environment that is able to run a Java application.
The Java installed in your web browser will not be adaquate to register
WebRespond. If you do not currently have Java installed, it is recommended
that you install the Java Run-Time Environment (JRE) on your system.
This can be found at Sun Microsystems, Inc. in the JavaSoft
JRE1.3 subdirectory. (This is a 5MB download.) Once the
JRE is installed you will be able to run the registration software.
-
Next you need to download the WebRespond Documentation
archive. This archive contains a copy of this web site which
contains both the Registration Jar File (wregister.jar) and the
WebRespond Classes File (wrespond.jar). It also contains the
WebRespond Appearance File (wrlook.txt), which is necessary for
registration.
-
Edit the file 'wrlook.txt' to change the appearance of your copy
of WebRespond. The registration process will generate a file named
'wrlook.ser', which will incorporate the changes you have made.
-
Next you must register with RegSoft to receive a registration number
for WebRespond. The cost to register is $20. To register
on-line through a secure order form and receive your registration number
immediately, click on the following button.
If you would like to place an order by phone contact RegSoft at
(770)
319-2718. When making a phone order, the ProductID 34929
needs to be given to the operator. An alternate (non-secure) point
of contact for registering WebRespond is given in case your browser has
problems contacting the secure order form. (Alternate
Point of Contact for Registering WebRespond.)
-
Open a command line window (MS Dos prompt) in the same directory as the
Registration Jar File and execute the following command.
JAVA -JAR WREGISTER.JAR.
This directory should also contain the file 'wrlook.txt'.
-
You will be prompted for your registration number and the host
server where your web pages using WebRespond will reside. You
should only use the web address for the host such as 'www.cedarville.edu'.
Do not include http:// nor any subdirectory information.
-
Once you enter this information the file 'wrlook.ser' will be generated.
Place this file in the same directory as any web pages that call WebRespond.
When WebRespond begins, it will look for this file and compare the registered
host server with the current host server. If they do not match, WebRespond
will use its default values for appearance. If you want to add additional
changes to the appearance of WebRespond without running the registration
process again, place a modified copy of 'wrlook.txt' in the same
directory as 'wrlook.ser'. WebRespond first looks for 'wrlook.ser'.
Upon a successful load and verification of the registration it looks for
'wrlook.txt' to incorporate additional changes. If an appropriate
version of 'wrlook.ser' is not found, then WebRespond will use its
default appearance definitions.
